Board Member Roles & Expectations

The Board of Directors helps ensure that KnowResolve stays financially healthy, mission-focused, legally compliant, and connected to the community. Board members serve as thought partners, ambassadors, and steady support.

Core Responsibilities

1. Mission Stewardship

  • Understand and support KnowResolve’s mission and values

  • Help guide long-term vision and priorities

  • Ensure programs and decisions align with the mission

2. Governance & Oversight

  • Participate in major organizational decisions

  • Review financial reports and organizational updates

  • Help ensure ethical, legal, and responsible operations

  • Support strategic planning and sustainability efforts

3. Participation & Engagement

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend regular board meetings

  • Read materials in advance when possible

  • Participate thoughtfully and respectfully

  • Serve on committees or project teams as needed

  • Offer professional expertise, lived experience, or community perspective

4. Advocacy & Community Connection

  • Positively represent KnowResolve in the community

  • Help build relationships and awareness

  • Connect the organization with potential supporters, partners, volunteers, or resources when appropriate

5. Financial Support

Board members are encouraged to:

  • Make a personally meaningful annual contribution

  • Assist with fundraising efforts in ways aligned with their comfort and strengths

  • Support organizational sustainability through ideas, connections, and advocacy

Time Commitment

Estimated commitment:

  • Board meetings: 6 per year (must attend a minimum of 4)

  • Occasional special events, planning sessions, or volunteer opportunities

  • Board positions are a 2 year commitment, with the option to renew
